Consider a board with arrays of miniature hole as in th circuit board. A square of 3*3 holes would be used to represent a letter. Below the board there's electro-mechanical system the would push up the pins up the holes based on the letter to be represented. For the purpose of demo this block representing a letter can be created and latter can be assembled in series to represent a complete sentence. Its a very basic and crude idea.
