Back to Coll…..

We arrived here today morning . Eager to know the proceedings the first thing we checked out were the allotments and to our disappointment  the college admin has split up the list in which we were supposed to get our rooms. Now a whole lot shifting is possibly due. Also a big change a guy like me from Pune would notice is the tremendous heat. Pune was very cool and pleasant as opposed to the hot dry climate here.

Anyways looking forward to meet evry1 here and eager to start this semester on a good note.(i.e. go to the first class early….I ve been late for  the first class for the past two semesters and they have been a disaster w.r.t results) A lot of work is to be done this sem…..AOL courses,MGL,etc……

jai Gurudev!

I came across this on GoogleCode . Check it out….

Radiohead just released a new video for its song “House of Cards” from the album “In Rainbows”.

No cameras or lights were used. Instead two technologies were used to capture 3D images: Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR. Geometric Informatics scanning systems produce structured light to capture 3D images at close proximity, while a Velodyne Lidar system that uses multiple lasers is used to capture large environments such as landscapes. In this video, 64 lasers rotating and shooting in a 360 degree radius 900 times per minute produced all the exterior scenes.

My Intern

Today was  the last day of my intern. Its been a wonderful learning experience at Zeus Numerix.I thank my mentor Sudhir M. and the HR at ZN for giving me the opportunity to work at ZN for the past two months.I have some fond memories and also great new friends :Chaitanya and Nek . It was a nice time with Sriram(yup he came all the way to Pune to work here…. 🙂 )and enjoyed going around for movies with you guys (Irrespective of the movies ).All the best to all you guys in your future endeavours…..

The intern clearly highlighted the key difference in studying theory and making industry class products – these are  the most precious points i have taken from this intern. Its all about applying the most basic points in theory which seem so very trivial and looking at a problem till u find a perspective of solving it elegantly  rather than simply brute forcing ur way through it.Its hard to do so and took me most of the time of the intern in learning and internalising it.Hopefully, when i face such tasks in future i would probably be better at handling them.

Thank You guys once again.

Bye , cya next post will be just before leaving for NITT.cant wait for meeting evry1 out there……

Jai Gurudev!!!

Jokes ….

Was randomly browsing the net when i came across the following:

Circuit, bole toh yeh Ford kya hai?
Bhai, gaadi hai.
Toh phir, yeh Oxford kya hai?
Bole toh, simple hai bhai, Ox mane Bael, Ford mane gaadi. Oxford bole toh Baelgaadi.

Sardar Jokes:
Santa Singh sent his bio data to America to apply for a post in intel. A few days later he got this reply:- Dear Mr. Singh, You do not meet our requirements. Please do not send any further correspondence. No phone call shall be entertained. Thanks

Santa singh jumped with joy on receiving this reply. He arranged a party and when all the guests had come, he said Bhaiyon aur Behno, aap ko jaan kar khushi hogee ki mujhay america mein naukri mil gayee hai.” Everyone was delighted. Santa singh continued Ab main aap sab ko apnaa appointment letter padkar sunaongaa par letter english main hai isliyen saath-saath hindi main translate bhee kartaa jaongaa.

Dear Mr. Singh—–pyare singh sahab

You do not meet—-aap to miltay hee naheen ho

our requirement—-humko to zaroorat hai

Please do not send any furthur correspondance—-ab letter vetter bhejnay kee zaroorat nahee hai.

No phone call —-phone vone kee bhee zaroorat nahee hai

shall be entertained—-bahut khaatir kee jayegi.

Thanks—-aapkaa bahut bahut shukriya

Jaane Tu Ya Jaane Na

I watch hindi movies rarely (rarely means around 2 or 3 a year). So what propelled me to watch this movie??Well nothing really…. Sriram , Chaitu had decided to go for a movie and i just tagged along. Sriram , Chaitu and Nek had already been to Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic and had regretted their decision (I expected it ….. 🙂 ).

The Movie:(Contains no spoilers … 🙂 )

The movie is a story of love. Not a love story … since these two words bring a specific template in hindi movie viewers minds….. Its a story of love between a group of friends , focussing on the lives of two very close friends Jai Singh ‘Rats’ Rathore(Imran Khan) and Aditi ‘Meow'(Genelia D’Souza) (Both look very cute throughout the movie….. 🙂 ).

Its a very refreshing movie that leaves one with a sense of lightening (couldnt think of anything else….meant to be something which lightens u up and kindof uplifts ur mood….. 🙂 ). A.R.Rahman has done a superb job with the music.Really nice watch….

Congrats to Aamir ,Imran,Genelia,Karan,Nirav,Alishka,Sugandha,Renuka for a job very  well done….. nice work and do bring such refreshing films periodically ….. 🙂

A poem by Aditya Nair one of the participants of the UTSAV course.

1700 of us were waiting on the first day…..

All eager for UTSAV to get under way…..

It was the first course of its kind…..

Much different from what I had in mind…..

Dinesh Bhaiyya conducted Soorya Namaskar without mercy…..

After all, we were all aged between 18 and 30…..

Bawa enlightened us with knowledge that was witty…..His way with words is a thing of beauty…..

With great Music, the first day was signed off…..

Those allergic to Spirituality also took their hats off…..

Thus went the first, second and the third day…..

With Dinesh & Bawa leading the way…..

Showing us, how ancient techniques and knowledge when combined…..

Can help us make cleaner, greener and happier times…..

How, when the youth combine to do Service and Meditation…..

Every Success, every Failure becomes a mere transition…..

There, I learnt that a smile is cool…..

To heal broken hearts, it is a great tool…..

The last day was the greatest of my life…..

It was an ‘Open For All’ and the energy was high…..

Bawa’s knowledge reached an encore…..

I sang with Vikram till my throat was sore…..

All in all, a great experience…..

With Dinesh’s resilience…..

Bawa’s brilliance…..

And Guruji’s omnipresence…..

So if you think your City, your Self and you Soul needs some love…..

Get yourself registered for the next UTSAV…..

Programming Humour

A few of my recent posts have been related to something interesting i find on StumbleUpon.Continuing this till i can figure out something really interesting to write on my own……:)

Interviewer: “Is studying computer science the best way to prepare to be a programmer?”

Bill Gates: “No, the best way to prepare is to write programs, and to study great
programs that other people have written. In my case, I went to
the garbage cans at the Computer Science Center and I fished
out listings of their operating system.”

DEBUGGING : Removing the needles from the haystack.

Endless Loop: n., see Loop, Endless.
Loop, Endless: n., see Endless Loop.
– Random Shack Data Processing Dictionary

“It is practically impossible to teach good programming style to students that have had prior exposure
to BASIC; as potential programmers they are mentally mutilated beyond hope of regeneration.”

“The three most dangerous things in the world are a programmer with a
soldering iron, a hardware type with a program patch and a user with an idea.”
– _The Wizardry Compiled_ by Rick Cook

“The primary purpose of the DATA statement is to give names to constants; instead of
referring to pi as 3.141592653589793 at every appearance, the variable PI can be given
that value with a DATA statement and used instead of the longer form of the constant.
This also simplifies modifying the program, should the value of pi change.”
– FORTRAN manual for Xerox computers

“C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it
harder, but when you do, it blows away your whole leg.”
– Bjarne Stroustrup

“Programming graphics in X is like finding sqrt(pi) using Roman numerals.”
– Henry Spencer

“Never put off until run time what you can do at compile time.”
– David Gries, in “Compiler Construction for Digital Computers”, circa 1969.

BASIC programmers never die, they GOSUB and don’t RETURN.

Real programmers are surprised when the odometers in their cars don’t turn from 99,999 to 99,99A.

FORTRAN is not a language. It’s a way of turning a multi-million
dollar mainframe into a $50 programmable scientific calculator.

C is almost a real language. Even the name sounds like it’s gone through
an optimizing compiler. Get rid of all of those stupid brackets and we’ll talk.

Any sufficiently advanced bug is indistinguishable from a feature.

Programming is 10% science, 25% ingenuity and 65% getting the ingenuity to work with the science.

Science is to computer science as hydrodynamics is to plumbing.

We don’t really understand it, so we’ll give it to the programmers.

COBOL programmers understand why women hate periods.

Computer interfaces and user interfaces are as different as night and 1.

The human mind ordinarily operates at only ten 10% of its
capacity, the rest is overhead for the operating system.

A computer scientist is someone who fixes things that aren’t broken.

The computer is mightier than the pen, the sword, and usually the programmer.

Programming is an art form that fights back.

After a number of decimal places, who cares?

“Virtual” means never knowing where your next byte is coming from.

If at first you don’t succeed, you must be a programmer.

“It’s 5:50 a.m., Do you know where your stack pointer is?”

If God had intended humans to program, we would be born with serial I/O ports.

There are two ways to write error-free programs; only the third one works.

You never finish a program, you just stop working on it.

Deliver yesterday, code today, think tomorrow.

PL/1, “the fatal disease”, belongs more to the problem set than to the solution set.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of APL, I shall fear
no evil, for I can string six primitive monadic and dyadic operators together.

Programming is a lot like sex. One mistake and you could have to support it the rest of your life.

Another Glitch in the Call
(Sung to the tune of a Pink Floyd song)

We don’t need no indirection
We don’t need no flow control
No data typing or declarations
Did you leave the lists alone?

Hey! Hacker! Leave those lists alone!

All in all, it was, just a pure-LISP function call.
All in all, it was, just a pure-LISP function call.

You can’t make a program without broken egos.
